Denim for Cycling

A couple of days I sat down on a friends sofa to catch up after almost a year of not seeing each other and ZWACK, my Jeans ripped apart. Again!

I only own 3 pants and I repair them in a frequent cycle. Luckily during my studies of fashion design, I learned how to sew and make clothes to work again.

But what’s the problem?!

Well, I work as a bike messenger and I like to wear jeans doing that, so the crotch goes through a lot, roughly between 100 to 150 km every week.

The other option would be to cycle in pants which are made out of synthetic fiber, but I like to blend in during my messenger shifts and don’t like to look like a person, who’s on their way to the next outdoor adventure into the woods.

I shared my struggle on instagram and realized, its well-known. Therefore, I opened up google and started looking around. What is the solution for this?

Below, you will find a list of pants which are especially designed for cycling. There are quite some brands out, trying to make Jeans to last longer while riding your bike.

Unfortunately, there are not so many products for women. I kind of expected this, but found a brand which offers a wide range of nice looking pants.

First we have to get a bit technical because Cordura is the magic word when it comes to fabric innovations. Click this Link to see test results they did for their “CORDURA® DENIM

“CORDURA® DENIM” is engineered with an intimate blend of military-grade INVISTA T420 nylon 6,6 staple fiber and cotton for an authentic denim look and feel with enhanced abrasion resistance and toughness.” (Cordura)

That is my favorite brand, because the pants are affordable and the styles are modern and well designed.

Duer has a wide range for women. They are not all necessarily cycling jeans, but I see the “All weather denim” as the best fit for what a day on the bike requires.Price:$199

Super comfortable & flattering cycling jeans that last. It also has the diamond gusset to prevent tearing. Price: 100 GBP

Last but not least I include the Rapha Jeans. Rapha is known for their great quality fabrics and well-designed details.

The fit and fabric seems fine, but why is it impossible for such a big brand to release this pants for women as well? Price: 180 €
